BILL DAWSON

William Charles Dawson V or just “Bill” is the treasured Senior Software Engineer for the Your Moral Compass Counts website. Bill is humble with lots of integrity and talent. He can do almost everything, but what he can’t do but needs to, he’ll figure out.

Bill’s multi-talents include some of the following: magician, former domain reseller, a ukulele and guitar player, deer watcher, software coder, chef, piano mover (where there are lots of stairs and hills in the San Francisco, California area), truck driver, tile setter, song writer, illustrator, prop maker, scuba diver, origami doer, public speaker, motorcyclist, potter, painter, and adult religion teacher. And that’s not all.

Bill was also a co-founder of the early Web giant, Xoom, a publicly traded company that reached a valuation of over $6 billion. In this role, he served as the Senior Software Engineer and Technical Director, and his meticulous software engineering leadership was pivotal in establishing Xoom.com as one of the world’s largest internet sites in 1999. Xoom was ultimately purchased by NBC and is now nbc.com.

In 2000, Dawson became the president of Manex Interactive, the multimedia division of Manex Visual Effects, which had pioneered the Academy Award-winning visual effects for “The Matrix” and “What Dreams May Come,” among other films.

Bill was hired at Apple by Guy Kawasaki (who later became the Chief Evangelist at Canva), as an area associate- -Apple’s term for secretary- -answering the phone for Macintosh Developer Technical Support, where he quickly learned coding and troubleshooting. Because of his software coding abilities, he was put on Apple’s first small coding team. Then, as a software engineer, he became the Chief Science Officer at Apple Inc. and was put on Apple’s Macintosh Development Team, working at times directly with Steve Jobs.

Bill would be instrumental in developing dozens of products, even writing the Apple Interactive Music Toolkit (AIMT), which he unveiled at the legendary Abby Road Studios in London.
